On Halloween, October 31, 2019, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi addressed the nation in her weekly press conference from Washington D.C.’s Capitol Hill. The press conference came before the House of Representatives voted to move forward with the impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump.
During the press conference, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi described it as a sad day. She stated the following.
“This is a sad day. It’s a sad day because nobody comes to Congress to impeach a president of the United States — no one. We’ve come here to do the work, to make the future better for our children, for America’s future. We take an oath to protect and defend the Constitution and that’s what we cannot ignore and we will not ignore when the President’s behavior indicates that that investigation — that inquiry — is necessary.”
On October 30,  the House Rules Committee agreed to put the impeachment resolution up for a vote. On October 31, the House of Representative voted and the impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump will move forward.
Nancy Pelosi continued.
“This isn’t about anything personal with the president. This isn’t about politics, it isn’t about patriotism [motions with hand as if she misspoke] it isn’t about partisanship, it’s about patriotism. It’s about patriotism and I would hope that rather than protecting the president personally, all of our colleagues would choose to honor their oath of office to protect and defend —not the president—but the Constitution of the United States.”
