It would be an understatement to say that 2019 has been a life-changing year for the 20-year-old rapper Lil Nas X. After pushing hard for a solid seven months and releasing a song that became the longest-running number one in the history of the Billboard Hot 100, the musician just announced to fans that he has cancelled two upcoming shows so he can take a much needed break.
Lil Nas X was scheduled to perform two shows this weekend – one at TwitchCon in San Diego and another at the Sandbox Music Festival in Mesa, Arizona – but the rapper announced on Twitter that he will not be able to make either show because he needs to “take a little time off” after a “wild last seven months.”

In addition to topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a history-making 19 weeks, Old Town Road was also named Billboard’s song of the summer.
After he signed with Columbia Records back in March and remixed the song with Billy Ray Cyrus, the video for Old Town Road went viral and the song shot to the top of the charts and never looked back. While the Grammy nominations are still a few weeks away, the wildly popular tune has already won Song of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards.
“It’s crazy, it’s crazy. Again, the people took this song and they made it their own, you know. It’s just been a heck of a ride and it’s been a lot of fun,” said Cyrus.
Nas also made news by coming out as gay on World Pride Day in late June at the same time that his song was at the top of the charts. He said during a recent appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that he opened up about his sexuality this summer because it was something he should have already done, but he was previously in a position where he was worried about how his friends and family would react.
Now, Lil Nas x says he is on a new level, so it doesn’t really matter. Plus, he thought it would be good for the young people listening to him who will have to go through the same “stuff” in the future that it’s all right.
