Jennifer Aniston is throwing serious shade at the Marvel movie franchise and Hollywood’s insistence to continue making them.
One of the reasons the actress is returning to television is because Aniston has no interest in acting in front of a green screen. She sat down with Variety to talk about her new Apple TV show, The Morning Show, set to drop in November.
During her chat, Aniston got candid regarding the shift in Hollywood from romantic comedies to superhero movies like Marvel. Fans know the talented Friends alum has a soft spot for romantic comedies.
The genre helped her make the transition from the television screen to the movie screen. Aniston feels Marvel movies are diminishing the choices for not only actresses but also moviegoers.
“You’re seeing what’s available out there, and it’s just diminishing and diminishing in terms of, it’s big Marvel movies. Or things that I’m not just asked to do or really that interested in living in a green screen,” she said to the magazine.
It is an era the 50-year-old wishes Hollywood would revert to instead of filling screens with mega green screen flicks.
“I think we would so love to have the era of Meg Ryan come back. I just think it would be nice to go into a movie theatre, sit cozy. I think we should have a resurgence. Let’s get the Terms of Endearment back out there. You know, Heaven Can Wait, Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, Goodbye Girl,” Aniston added.
The actress is not the only one who has taken aim at the Marvel movies recently. Director Martin Scorsese called the films “not cinema” during an interview with Empire magazine. He shared he tried to watch the superhero movies, but they were not art or film to him.
