Kanye West To Release Jesus Is King IMAX Film As Fans Anxiously Wait For The New Album

Kanye West is reportedly switching from rap music to gospel, and along with that transition he is also releasing an IMAX film titled Jesus Is King that features songs from his upcoming gospel album. IMAX announced their collaboration with West over the weekend, and they call the film a “one-of-a-kind experience.”

In a statement, IMAX revealed they shot the movie in the summer of 2019, and it “brings Kanye West’s famed Sunday service to life in the Roden Crater, visionary artist James Turrell’s never-before-seen installation in Arizona’s Painted Desert.”

The movie will feature songs that West arranged in the gospel tradition, as well as music from his new album Jesus Is King. IMAX added that they will release more details about the movie in the next few weeks.

West’s latest album was scheduled to be released on Friday, September 27th, and his wife Kim Kardashian tweeted that it would feature 12 Christian-themed songs. However, at the last minute, West had to delay the release to Sunday, with Kardashian writing on Instagram that her husband had to make “a few final tweaks to the mixes,” but the album still hasn’t materialized.

According to People Magazine, West has changed album release dates in the past, including the mysterious Yandhi album which was supposed to come out at the same time he appeared on Saturday Night Live in September 2018. However, he pushed back that album’s release date to Black Friday, and then it just completely disappeared.

When some of West’s music leaked online this past summer, some believed they were from the Yandhi album, but no one knows for sure.

Fans have taken to social media in droves to express their disappointment over the missing Jesus Is King album, and many have created memes to communicate their sadness. One fan posted a pic of West sleeping on a couch with the caption, “How Kanye West gonna be sleeping tonight after not dropping his album again.”

Another fan simply wrote, “And another broken promise @kanyewest #JesusIsKing.”

Despite the delayed album release, IMAX says that the movie version of Jesus Is King will hit their theaters nationwide on October 25th.
